/- President Barack Obama announced new measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with “clean coal” technology on Wednesday in his latest move to keep climate change at the top of the country’s political agenda./ (Is he so smart he’s dumb-He hires the same people that caused our financial crises to get us out; now he thinks there is such a thing as clean coal, but neither of these actions will work.-what a let down I guess his first name is George.)
/ - As the Senate debates financial reform, consumer groups are urging Congress to break up the biggest banks and impose strict limits on proprietary lending, virtually guaranteeing a “repeat” of the 2008 meltdown if those actions aren’t taken./ (Am I reading this wrong or am I just wrong? This is what I believe should happen also, but I believe it will prevent another meltdown-Let’s see; break up larger banks so they will not be to big to fail-yes;place lending limits on banks-which should limit outstanding debts and prevent them failing-yes-Am I wrong?
/03 Feb 2010 A January 27 hearing of the House Committee on Homeland Security established that US intelligence agencies stopped the State Department from revoking the US visa of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab… Revocation of Abdulmutallab’s visa would have prevented him from boarding the airplane… The revelation that US intelligence agencies made a deliberate decision to allow Abdulmutallab to board the commercial flight, without any special airport screening, has been buried in the media/ (Are some agencies and people complicit-It sure sounds like it.)
/Others argue, however, that the sanctions will not influence the Iranian government in the least and that the pain experienced as a result will fall most heavily on the Iranian people who will be unable to heat their homes and will likely lose their jobs as the economy contracts./ (Have sanctions ever worked?)
/America’s way of war is, actually, not so new under the sun. Centuries ago, China’s Sun Tzu would have recognized some of our ways and errors. Indeed he would be rolling over in his grave at seeing how his famous dictums for successful wars are ignored and violated by America: a trillion-dollar war in Iraq, losing our allies, creating more and more fanatical enemies willing to do suicide missions against us, borrowing from foreigners to finance our wars./ (I was an officer in the 60’s and none of these tactics were taught to me-I have a masters and none of these tactics were taught to me-where are they coming from?)
Only one US senator - Democrat Russ Feingold of Wisconsin - voted against the legislation./Three sections of the Act were due to “sunset” - expire, unless reauthorized - on December 31 of last year. Congress must amend those sections that have been found unconstitutional or have been abused to collect information on innocent people. The House of Representatives passed legislation, but the Senate Judiciary Committee was unable to agree on language and voted to temporarily extend consideration until next month (If I am correct the law enforcement community will never give up the Patriot Act they have always felt limited by some of the laws-My civilian career was in law enforcement, but I unlike probably the majority of my peers believe these protection laws only made us better at our work while protecting civil liberties-no the Patriot Act is the beginning of Fascism.)
