2.Veto Sparks Iraq Constitutional Crisis Parliament speaker: rumors of court overturning veto false
/Hashemi vetoed the bill after parliament refused to address his complaints that the two million plus Iraqi refugees who have yet to return to the country have no legal representation under the current law./ (I saw a segment of Democracy Now yesterday on this topic, and it basically came down to Iraq playing politics with the US some wanting us to leave, and some wanting us to stay, and I think since most if not all of our combat forces gone from Iraq this would be a good time for the US to quietly leave.)
3.Gates: Too Early to Set Afghan Timeline Cites Iraq as model for ‘gradual’ move
/, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said it was much too soon for NATO to set any sort of timetable for handing over security to Afghan forces, and cautioned that doing so would be counterproductive.Instead Secretary Gates sees the gradual Iraq handover as a model to be imitated. (As I said in #2 this would be a good way of saving face: however Afghanistan is very different than Iraq, and I doubt if the gradual approach will work there, but it would be better than a policy of continuous surges-We should just leave.)

/- Coal pollution is assaulting human health through impacts on workers, residents near mining operations and power plants, and the environment in coalfield communities, according to a new report by a group of physicians./ (Add this to petroleum poison and YOU have an environmental disaster waiting to happen, but when you include nuclear waste you not only get global warming from the first two, but possible water contamination from nuclear waste-It’s time to wake up America while we still have an America.)

Advice on Afghanistan
/George W. Bush, in the duplicitous run-up to the invasion of Iraq, insulated himself, closed his mind and refused to meet with civic associations in his own land. Like an autocrat bent on plunging a country into war and occupation, knowingly on false pretenses, he deliberately deprived himself of the information that might have restrained his disastrous, messianic militarism. Disastrous, not to him and Dick Cheney, but to our country, soldiers, and economy, and to the devastated Iraqi people and their ravaged nation./ (In my opinion Bush-”W”, and Obama-”O” have more than just a letter we can refer to them by both ignore sound council.)

/A new CBS poll says 69 percent of Americans think things are going badly in Afghanistan.  Only 27 percent of Republicans think things are going well there.  Yikes./ (Leaders at one time cared what the citizens wanted, but not so much any more since we allowed “W” to be above the law-Now they all think they are.)
3.Afghan Lessons from the Iraq War We’ve been here before, says Ray McGovern
/You don’t have to go back 40 years to the Vietnam War to feel the sting of déjà vu. Returning to the Iraq War just three years ago will suffice./ (This is true, but you have to go all the way back to the Korean War/Police Action to get to our first illegal action.)

POLITICAL-SPECIAL

(There is a short video imbedded in the article YOU can watch:  It sounds to me like the first step in building a prison system the Feds would attempt to keep filled, and most of the prisoners in Gitmo have already been incarcerated long enough especially not being guilty of any offense except being in the wrong place at the wrong time they should all be released back to their country or to the US if their home country denies entry.)

But it is not enough./ (No it’s not enough, but let us wait until we see how much evidence the judge allows in, and how much will be left out due to “National Security”-I have my doubts the trials will be that much different than the Bush kangaroo trials .)

/While human rights advocates are generally applauding the decision to conduct trials in federal court in New York, they are at the same time strongly criticizing the Justice Department for keeping the military commissions in place to try some suspects./ (I was hoping when I first heard this that the truth about 911 might come out, but I now see the trials of the one’ that might lead to the truth will probably not be tried in federal courts “National Security” YOU know.)
